Marion..

..has used “the clear”!  One of the awesome performances I saw in athletics is down the drain! I honestly believe she could have won/dominated the sport without taking any illegal drugs!!

I have enjoyed four moments in sprinting thus far…

  1. Flo Jo winning 100m in the Olympics
  2. Ben Johnson winning 100m and Carl Lewis coming second in the Olympics
  3. Mike Johnson’s record breaking 200 and 400m runs.
  4. Jones’ 100 and 200m wins in the Olympics

Out of these, only #3 stands tall now (given the amount of rumors about Flo Jo and the nature of dope testing in those days).

Why?

Why does it take Buddhist monks to remind George W Bush about this?

“Americans are outraged by the situation in Burma, where a military junta has imposed a 19-year reign of fear,” he said. “Basic freedoms of speech, assembly, and worship are severely restricted.”

Ignorance is Bliss

September 14, 2007 · Leave a Comment

If the project (a project involving Kamal Hassan, Rajni Kant and Mani Ratnam) materialises, this will be their second film together. Three decades ago, director Bharathiraja had cast both the stars in his 1977 movie “Pathinaru Vayathinile”. Both Kamal and Rajni made their mark as the hero and the villain respectively in the film set in a rural ambience.

Both the stars have worked with Ratnam separately. Kamal was seen in the title role in “Nayakan”. Released in 1987, the film brought laurels to the director as an innovative filmmaker.

Ratnam’s “Dalapathy”, released in 1991, took Rajnikant several steps up the popularity ladder.

Ha Ha Ha! Ignorance is indeed blissful!

Down south goes up

August 1, 2007 · 7 Comments

Yes, TOI says so

What an article! Some gems that are contained in it:

” YOU can’t dismiss it as Simply South anymore. Proof?

  1. Look no further than SRK wanting to work with Shankar
  2. Asin and Shriya being touted as the next big things in Bollywood
  3. Even Amitabh had to acknowledge the super stardom of Rajnikanth following the success of Sivaji over Jhoom Barabar Jhoom in Mumbai.”

SRK?? Shankar?? Acknowledgment of AB?? Great proofs!! ROFL :) It doesn’t stop here..it goes ahead and says…

“As for filmi music, AR Rahman is today the last word on the business. And of course, there’s the eternal Ilayaraja . They changed the entire musical scene in Bollywood”

The reference to Ilayaraja here is because of Cheeni Kum (read the article) and the fact that its songs were liked in the North. Factually, those songs are around 20 years old! Nobody used ‘em. Just because someone used them now, doesn’t make it a new phenomenon! It just implies lack of awareness in the past!

This article, supposedly, is praising sudden “improvement” in film technicians from southern India!! Why to praise or ridicule based on the region? Why can’t the media just comment on the work done and leave it at that! Doesn’t sell, does it? Praise with some substance, at the minimum!

I agree that stupidity omnipresent!! But then, one should realize that and shut up. Like I do. Sigh!

Gandhi is more popular..Judgement is too harsh..Life is Good

August 1, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Yesterday, Headlines Today said the following in their channel (this was not a comment by somebody, this was what the channel said)…

“The judgment sounds harsh given the fact that Sanjay is the man who popularized Gandhi amongst youth”

WHAT??

Firstly, MunnaBhai 2 didn’t “aim” at popularizing Gandhi.

Secondly, Sanjay “acted” in that movie and his job was just that – acting.

The emotional fervor that our News Channels are exhibiting when delivering news is alarming. What is the point in playing “Pal Pal Pal Pal Ek Pal Ek Pal” or Saajan’s songs in the background when news about Sanjay’s verdict is delivered?

Pain

July 26, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Words from Jens Voight (whom I have watched in awe for the last 5 years now)…

“I am fed up with this. They make our life difficult and complicated. Through their obvious stupidity, they risk the existence of the teams, including soigneurs, mechanics, bus drivers and so on.”

and…

“These people go home now and hide behind their attorneys. But I stand here on the front line. I have to answer all the questions and talk about doping. And I don’t have anything to do with it”

This doesn’t end here. Hear out Michael Boogerd (who worked his ass off for Rasmussen in Alps and Pyrennees and I started admiring him)…

“At Boxmeer you come to the start and the announce will say, ‘Look, here we have Michael Boogerd, who rode for Rasmussen for weeks.’ I find it terrible. To ride for four more days in the Tour for nobody? don’t know what I should think of all this. I want to go home immediately.”

The pain in these words is…..well, just horrible! No wonder, I felt this.

Update: Just came to know that Jens Voight is in a break away and leading the main group by 8+ minutes. An unbelievable bike rider!

Sen and the Art of Proclaiming one’s Stupidity (a better version)

July 9, 2007 · 2 Comments

This was Sen’s response to the comments she got out of this.

Wonderfully thought through response, which can be summarized thusly:

“The blog was not a FILM REVIEW it was a PERSONAL OPINION”

Thanks for clarifying. A review is a personal opinion too, isn’t it? As you say it is ‘informed’. Now we know that your personal opinion can never be informed.

My post was existential angst in response to current socio-cultural-political events, which is what a blog is meant to be.”

Darling, you don’t seem to know the difference between a “blog” and a “post” (evidence, refer the quoted text in bullet #1). Since when did you become the final authority of defining what blog is? On what basis are you stating that a blog is meant to be the reflection of one’s existential angst in response to current socio-cultural-political events?

Many of you have implied and assumed – thought you guys could read because you sure can write :) – that I believe Hindi and Hollywood films are better. Let me disillusion you. I am happy to say that the majority of films from both those spaces are also CRAP. So stop falling back on idiotic, petty and frankly outdated `regional language’ fault lines. And that, my dears is a pun.”

You call majority of the films from both those spaces are crap. And you state that you are “happy” to call them that. Why are you happy? And what if you state so? Your idiocy is not absolved by saying so, it is being cemented. Please understand.

Grow up. Learn to separate an artist’s work from his/her private person. If I believe an actor’s latest work is CRAP it doesn’t stop me from choosing to believe that he/she is a great human being.

Do you think he acted so badly or the director made him to do scenes which in your opinion are bad? Please clarify.

Sivaji’s made money so it can’t be bad

That’s what many of you have said and that’s such earth shatteringly self serving logic that I can’t even react. I can only wish people who believe that everything that makes money is good, all the best.

You can’t react? Then don’t (any idiot knows that such statements shouldn’t be reacted to and any above average human will not do so..But you do…that makes you special).

Come on I needn’t have told you that I don’t speak or understand Tamil beyond Inge va, Teri yada and Teri Yum (ironically I learned the last two phrases watching Rajni’s Thalapathi which was much better that Sivaji), Chaddi Pota Ko and Po. But do you honestly believe that I needed to have an M.A. in Tamil to follow Sivaji” You are kidding right?

Yeah, you don’t need to know Tamil to follow that movie. But remember what you stated earlier. You don’t?? I’ll help you out – “The dialogues which I couldn’t understand, the only Tamil I know is – Chaddi pota ko – and with no subtitles for help – I missed the nuances, and there seemed to be some. Of course one way of looking at it is see the whole film as a joke”. You talked about dialogues and stated that you don’t understand any thing and then that you missed the nuances.  But you opined that there “seemed to be some” nuances (How, I wonder?). Then you go on to make a remarkable comical sentence. You direct your readers that the movie should be seen as a joke. What is it? Are you playing some random sentences game or that’s all you are capable of? Please tell.

Congratulations

If you guys feel so strongly about something you have loads of energy and passion. Want to see what you can achieve if you use it more constructively

Please madam. If you had used your time constructively, why would you bother to read comments (1000s of them) and bother to put a post as an answer? That too with a stupid proclamation that you did it when you were supposed to work! Seeing the crap your company produces, I wonder whether you are supposed to work at all.

Someone who said I maybe a pig but I have balls”

You have that too?? Sigh!

Sen and the Art of Proclaiming one’s Stupidity

July 5, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Here is the evidence.

No more proof was needed. I was part of the herd. I had squelched my sensibilities, curbed my natural inclinations, disinclinations rather, and had caved in to peer pressure.”

Exactly, you should rather go and write about why you caved in to peer pressure and why you didn’t respect your sensibilities. But you wouldn’t do that, would you? If you do, Who will read?? Rather you can say wonderful gems like this:

I remember Rajnikanth from some very forgettable Hindi films of the 80s. Well the news is that he is still there. Stuck in the 80s that is.”

and

The dialogues which I couldn’t understand, the only Tamil I know is – Chaddi pota ko – and with no subtitles for help – I missed the nuances, and there seemed to be some. Of course one way of looking at it is see the whole film as a joke. “

Well well!! You wanted the number of hits to increase it looks like!! Peer pressure?? Others’ blogs in IBN-Live getting more hits?? Peer pressure?? Probably, you’d have come across better had you explained why the only tamil sentence you seem to know is “chaddi pota ko”.  Now I am starting to wonder why you know only that sentence!!

Update: You work with Rajdeep Sardesai…right?? That would explain the stupidity part!! You get “peer pressures” out of Rajdeep?! Come on girl!!
