Limitations of Rules

Year: 1981

Venue: MCG

Match: 3/5 Benson & Hedges World Series Cup between Australia vs New Zealand (tied 1-1)

Event: New Zealand, batting second, needed 6 runs from the last ball to tie the game. Australia chose to bowl an under arm delivery (ball never bounces!) to prevent a six being hit. Of course, Aussies won the match. (watch)

Penalty: New Zealand batsman, Brian McKechnie, who faced the under arm delivery was censured for bringing the game of Cricket into disrepute (he threw his bat to the ground after receiving that delivery, picked up and walked back to the pavilion).
